Tips for an Easy System Backup

Backing up your files is one of the most important and essential things you can do to keep yourself safe from corrupted or lost data. But the sad fact is that most of us don’t backup our system as often as we should. The general recommended frequency of backing up your files is once a week for occasional computer users and every day for people who use their PCs often. Most of us don’t back up our data that often and plenty of us don’t do it at all. This is a shame because a simple backup can save you loads of trouble and headaches in the future. Most people simply don’t do a system backup because they think it is difficult and tedious but this couldn’t be further from the truth. These tips for an easy system backup will prove this once and for all.

Online Backup

One of the easiest ways to backup your data is to simply pay an online service to take care of it all for you. Basically, the idea is that there is no safer place to backup your files than the internet, since it will be around even when your computer or your CD-ROMs aren’t. There are plenty of computers that offer online backup and many of them have hundreds of gigabytes at their disposal just for you. You can expect to pay somewhere between fifty and one hundred dollars for a year of backup but if you want to backup more than one PC the price can get considerably higher. Still, it is a pretty safe and secure way to hold onto your files.

Backup Software

There are plenty of great data backup programs out there that allow you an easy and intuitive way to store all your essential files. Most of them guide you through the process and all you have to do is click your mouse when prompted. Most backup software costs between forty and fifty dollars and once you have the software you can use it as much as you want. This makes it more affordable than online backup by a considerable margin but if you lose the CDs or other storage media with the backup data you’ll be in a sticky situation.

Do it Yourself

If you don’t have too much data to backup you can take care of it yourself. Text files are small enough that you can simply email them to yourself. Nearly all email providers allow you to send attachments and most of them give you the ability to attach quite a bit of data. Songs can be burned onto a CD and movies and videos can be burned to DVDs and stored somewhere safe. If you have a USB memory stick with a few gigabytes you can copy and then transfer your important data onto the stick and then put it in a safe location.
