AutoSave Essentials is a simple and easy-to-use backup software application developed by Avanquest Inc. This is a low-priced application which takes up only 15MB, and it differs from the heavyweights in the fact that it focuses on backing up only the essentials for each user. A trial version is also available with limited features. AutoSave Essentials has a very attractive and simple user interface which asks ‘What do you want to back up?’ at startup. It also allows you to choose from a range of backup location options: you can backup your files to an external hard disk, internal hard disk, optical drive, network drive, or even online hosting location via FTP.
AutoSave Essentials also provides a useful scheduling service which will back up the selected data at regular time intervals. You can set up a backup schedule and simply forget that AutoSave Essentials exists on your computer, it will do all the work needed for the backup in the background without ever interrupting your work.
If you’re looking for a backup solution that doesn’t’t overwhelm you with settings and full image creation and the like, AutoSave Essentials is the solution for you.
AutoSave Essentials Review
Right after the install you will be asked to setup the backup of your files. AutoSave Essentials is probably the easiest data backup program you will ever use because of how simple it is. It ‘s not built for backing up all of your computer. Just the main parts that most people tend to use.
When you select the Edit Backup Plan you are prompted with the below options. Basically you can just click the All My Documents dialog box and have everything in the My Documents section to your computer selected for backup. You can also select to backup all videos, music, pictures as well as your web setting and bookmarks. AutoSave Essentials will automatically find the associated files on your computer and back them up.
Now it’s time to select were you want your data backed up to. In most cases you will want to backup the data onto a drive that the original data is not on. This ensures that if that single hard drive fails your backup will not be on that drive. Your options are very clear. You can backup to an different hard drive, USB flash drive, over a network or to an FTP server.
Another option you have for backing up your data is to choose to create a custom backup plan. Going this route allows you to specify exactly what files or folders you want backed up.
The Specific Extensions option is nice if you just want specific file extensions like .jpg or .mp3 files. It makes it easy to copy over exactly what you need or want.
To restore a backup in the event of data loss you would simply use the Restore From Backup option at the main screen and then browse to the latest backup. From there you can restore your files to their original locations.

One item that many will find nice is the Archive to Disk option. This lets users backup data onto a CD or DVD for easy storage. While most will find having one external hard drive suites them well. It’s nice to be able to burn a few DVD’s of your really important data and keep them at a different site incase something happens like a fire or flood that can destroy both sets of data at once.

Ultimately we chose AutoSave Essentials as being one of the best data backup software programs out there because of how simple it is to use. It does not come with many bells and whistles but with just a few clicks a user can have all their important data backed up and secure.
