Acronis True Image Home 2011 is a big improvement over past Acronis backup programs. While the older versions worked very well, the GUI or Graphic User Interface was always lacking and was way hard to move around then what was needed. Acronis True Image Home 2011 provides the same great older features in a much newer and easier to navigate menu. They have also helped to automate the process of backup up data for users that are not all too tech savvy.

Acronis offer a FULL IMAGE BACKUP. This means it can create an exact copy of your entire machine. If your computer hard drive fails, you can load a new hard drive and with the backup image you can have your computer backup in hours looking exactly as it was before your computer crashed.

The installation of Acronis went smoothly. It will take several minutes to install due to the programs size and a reboot of the computer seems to be required.

When you select the Backup up my critical data option, by default you will only see two options. The My Computer section backs up your entire computer, programs and all. The other option is to just backup all the user data. This is referring to all your documents, music, pictures and personal data such as bookmarks. and custom user settings.

The Backup Assistant Option is almost the same. In fact I was a little confused why they even had this in a separate section.

The last option is for you to go to the programs home screen. Personally I think this is were users should start. You will notice three new options that you have.

Online Backup – Allows the user to save files online for later retrieval. (Extra Fee to backup your data online.

Create Bootable Media – Allows the user to create bootable media, such as floppy disks, CD/DVDs, and ISO’s. This is needed in case your hard drive crashes. When you install a new hard drive you will want the bootable media disk so you can install the backup image of your hard drive.

Browse For Backup – Allows the user to browse and search for any and all Acronis True Image Backup files.

Towards the top right you will see “Tools & Utilities”. This section is were all the really good settings are that most data backup programs lack. It’s made for more intermediate users but I encourage anyone who purchases this software to take a closer look at it.
